Larry Shaw
Bio
Larry Shaw is an accomplished drummer, educator, and composer from Wyoming now based in Philadelphia. With years of experience performing with prominent local musicians, Larry seeks to bring a Wyoming perspective to the vibrant music scene of Philadelphia.
As a performer, Shaw has had the pleasure of performing and appearing with esteemed musicians such as professional orchestral percussionist Doug Perkins, jazz saxophonist Greg Osbey, Snarky Puppy’s and Ghost Note’s percussionist Nate Werth, jazz trumpeter Terell Stafford, and jazz pianists Ben Markley and Tim Brey. Shaw has had the pleasure to appear on stage at renowned venues across the country, from Tippet Rise Art Center in Fishtail, MT; to Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola in New York City. Shaw has a vast collection of original compositions surrounding scenes from Wyoming, Philadelphia, his time as an airline employee, and love. Shaw aims to showcase more of his music in Philadelphia in 2023. Additionally, Shaw has created and began writing music for a new hip-hop/neo soul group called Sauce Boss featuring a full rhythm section and a rapper.
As an educator, Larry has taught private lessons since 2015 and currently teaches music at Mastery Charter Schools - Shoemaker Campus in West Philadelphia. As of January, 2023, Shaw is a dedicated and passionate adjunct instructor of percussion at Sheridan College where he teaches a curriculum surrounding jazz drumming and orchestral percussion.
